Ron Lee I can't believe this finally came out! I was at the Castro that night--I swear to god I barely even breathed the whole time. A phenomenal experience I've always treasured. So excited to hear again.

about

This is live recording of Oranger performing their live score to the experimental 1929 film "Man With A Movie Camera" by Dziga Vertov. This was originally written by the band to be performed at a screening of the film as part of the 2005 L.A. Independent Film Festival. The band performed it live for the second (and final) time during a second screening of the film at The Castro Theater later that year as part of the 2005 Noisepop Film Festival.

(From Mike) This was such a fun project. We wrote all the music for this upstairs at my house in Westwood Park, San Francisco, piecing together a few melodic ideas I had sitting around and experimenting with different instrumentation. It was probably the most collaborative piece of music we did, and it was very meticulously arranged to closely track the film. It's also all over the place stylistically and hyper dynamic, which was a blast to perform in those amazing theaters.

The lineup was myself, Matt, Bob, Patrick and our pal Alan Stewart. Matt played live drums and bass when needed, Bob and I played guitar, Patrick played keys and theremin and Alan was using technology.
